DriverGuide.com - Using DriverGuide s Installer

DriverGuide s installer software Windows only simplifies the driver installation process.  It safely downloads and verifies your driver and then assists in the installation of it.

You may notice that the file size of the installer software is much smaller than the file size of your actual driver.  The reason is that first the installer setup file is downloaded, and then the installer software does the work of fetching your driver from our fastest download server.

The installer setup file has been certified safe by leading-class virus and malware scanners.

Sometimes anti-virus software can report false positives.  If this happens to you, we encourage you to submit the file you download to VirusTotal a free, independent service which identifies malicious content where you will see dozens of other anti-virus scanners report the file is perfectly safe.

The installer setup file may include a purely optional advertising offer which you are free to decline.  We only work with trusted advertising partners.

Note: Windows only. Mobile, Mac OS and Linux users can choose other download options by deselecting the installer checkbox below the download button.

The Liberty Bell is a huge bronze bell that symbolizes freedom in the United States of America. This historic bell is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. The bell was originally cast in 1752 in London, England. It was commissioned as a bell for the Pennsylvania State House now called Independence Hall.

The Crack: The bell first cracked during a test ringing. After cracking, the bell was recast twice in 1753 in Philadelphia by John Pass and John Stow the old bell was broken up and melted down, more copper was added to the metal alloy to make it less brittle, and the bell was re-cast.

The restored bell was probably rung at the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776. It rang to announce many important events in early American history, including Presidential elections and deaths.

The bell cracked again on July 8, 1835, while being rung at the funeral of John Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. The crack s dimensions are 24.5 inches long by 1/2 inch wide.

Inscriptions on the Bell: Across the top of the bell is the inscription, PROCLAIM LIBERTY THROUGHOUT ALL THE LAND UNTO ALL THE INHABITANTS THEREOF LEV. XXV X. This is a quote from the Old Testamentent of the Bible, Leviticus chapter 25, verse 10. Under this reads, BY ORDER OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE PROVINCE OF PENSYLVANIA sic FOR THE STATE HOUSE IN PHILADA. Lower on the bell are the inscriptions, PASS AND STOW, the last names of the founders who cast the bell John Pass and John Stow. Beneath this is PHILADA, short for Philadelphia. The lowest inscription is the Roman numerals MDCCLIII 1753, the year the bell was re-cast.

The Name Liberty Bell : The bell was originally called the State House Bell or the Province Bell. The bell was first called the Liberty Bell around 1839 by abolitionist anti-slavery publications.

Hi,

First of all I would like to say that I am starting my second year as A computer Information Systems major, so I am not a complete noob. I have not made it far enough into my major yet to start with server stuff, we have done mainly math and programming up to this point. But next semester I begin taking the appropriate networking classes. But I wanted to learn and self-teach before that.

But now down to business, I purchased an HP ProLiant DL380 G5 specifically this one: STRK:ME to learn the basics on before I start my real classes in college. I know the hardware is older but its going to get the job done for what I want it to do.

My first question:

It has 4 72 gig sas hard drives that I want to put into Raid 0 for the OS. Is there a setup utility that you use prior to installing the OS to put them into raid, or do you install the OS first then use an HP utility.

Secondly, I have heard yes and no s to whether you can install server 2012 onto this machine. This article seems to confirm it but I just want to double check.

Thirdly, this isn t really a question but are there any tips you guys have for a first timer trying to configure a server for home use.

Particularly for the following:

Media Server plex which is dead easy to use

VPN Server

and remote access to use the server headless of course

Hopefully I posted this in the correct place. if not please move it.

Thanks a bunch.

Technically, the G5 servers are not supported under Server 2012, only G6 most models and later are supported. That being said, I think the main thing that is lacking driver support is older RAID controllers really, so if you can pick up a newer P410 RAID card for cheap, you should can download the Windows Server 2012 drivers for that RAID card and have access to your storage to begin installation. I m not 100 positive because I haven t set up WS2012 on a G5 server before, but that should allow you to do it.

Setting up RAID 0 on the hard drives requires configuring the array during the BIOS startup of the computer. Watch the prompts, as it should show you what component it is starting and reading configurations from as the server is booting. You should see a prompt such as HP SmartArray P400 and then it will state which Function key you need to press to enter the configuration window. Once you enter that configuration, there should be an option to Create Logical Array, and you can then set up the drives in which ever RAID type you wish.

Thanks for the detailed response. Would server 2008 be a better option. Not only because it s compatible but because there are many more detailed tutorials for this os than 2012.

Windows Server 2008 R2 may be a better fit for the G5 servers, as they are supported. However, in some ways I feel hesitant recommending someone train to learn on an older OS platform. While WS2008 is still very widely used and is the majority share, it is being replaced with Windows Server 2012, and there are a lot of improvements made in WS2012 especially for things like virtualization and storage. Sometimes it is best to learn the latest that is available and apply what you have learned from the latest to older generations, because it s not always possible to do the reverse. However, there is enough in common between the two that I think you should be able to work around with it and still learn quite a bit. The choice on that really is up to you, but basically there is one additional step you will have to do to make the physical server compatible with WS2012 if that is what you choose, but it would also probably be the recommended choice if you are setting this up for education and learning how to work with Windows Server environments.

Thanks.

I think I will stick with server 2012 then. I have read other articles online about getting around the issue with the unsupported raid card, and it seems others have had success. I ll try server 2012 with the current workarounds on the raid card and if it doesn t work out the 410 is around 80 bucks on ebay which isn t too big of a deal. Thanks for your advice.

Solution:

I installed server 2008 on the G5, then run server 2012 setup from windows GUI not upgrade. it will create an old windows directory which you can delete. this the the only way i got server 2012 to install in a HP G5 Server. For some reason it picks up the raid driver this way and installs with no issues. added note i setup my raid before the server 2008 portion of the install. and you don t need the full install of 2008 you only need to get to the GUI and run setup of 2012.

hope this helps

Parallel Ports And Serial Ports Difference

Advantages and DIsadvantages. Parallel connections are, all things being equal, faster due to a higher rate of transfer. However, parallel ports also require more.

Serial Port: Ports: 1: Protocol: LPT Printer: Connector: 25 Pin Parallel Port Female Connector: UART: Brainboxes 16C958: UART Compatibility: 16750/16550/16450.

Dec 26, 2015  Both serial ports and parallel ports are examples of computer technology that were once cutting edge; for most of the history of personal computers.

What is the difference between a serial and parallel port.

A:

Quick Answer

According to the University of Mexico, serial ports transmit data one bit at a time, whereas parallel ports transmit 8 bits of data at a time. The location of the port depends on the age and type of the device.

Full Answer

On older computers, serial ports are connected to a keyboard, modem or mouse; a parallel port is faster and is connected the printer. Newer computers use a wide range of ports to connect various hardware devices. The Universal Serial Bus, or USB port, is the most commonly used to connect devices such as an external drive, keyboard, scanner, mouse, printer or audio. Other commonly used ports are FireWire, Ethernet, PCMCIA, Audio Ports and SCSI.

summertime, I actually ran into a very similar issue with specialized bar scanners that our computers and point of sale systems were using. These scanners simply were to expensive to replace and when we purchased new computers to hook up to them, we realized that no parallel port was included on the new system. At first, I gawked in disbelief. How could such a true and tried system of connection be phased out within a generation of computers. Trying to avoid the high cost that you speak of to transition to new equipment, we found an option that seemed to work best and was quite cheap.

We found that some computer hardware manufacturers learned that consumers still had a

need for these older technologies and. The best option for our needs and the constraints of the new computers was the installation of a parallel pci card. This expansion style card that installs into the motherboard directly worked great and had a small cost. Working with drivers for the operating system was the most challenging part but luckily we did our research and found a card that was capable of working on Microsoft s latest version of Windows. I hope others are able to make a costly transition less painful with the use of expansion cards.

The only problem with the phasing out of the rs232 serial port from many home and professional level computer systems is that it will result in a large variety of perfectly working hardware becoming obsolete or unusable. A good example of this is the use of a scrolling LED marque that my business uses to display messages to customers. Traditionally we had programed this message board with a computer that was used specifically for that purpose. Last week when that computer ceased to continue working, we were faced with a major problem. The replacement computer and any computer that we researched did not come with this old style of serial port. While I did find some references to serial to

usb converters available on the internet, the two that I ordered and tried simply would not work. I was then told by the manufacturer of the sign that it was not longer possible to update the sign via a computer and would have to be done with the very inefficient remote control.

This was unacceptable and the company offered me a trade in bargain on my ancient technology. Essentially I paid a very little amount to get a better message board and USB connectivity. This is always something to consider when you have to deal with equipment that uses archaic connection standards. Be careful as a business owner as this is the type of situation that can greatly increase costs as you make a transition.

I recently retired my very old ink jet printer and realized that the new printers that are on our market today have a new type of connectivity. While I was expecting the usual and time-tested parallel port print, that was far from what I experienced. It might also speak to just how old the computer I have is. My folks always raised me with the value that you don t replace something until it is beyond repair. Following this philosophy means that I have an ancient computer that has finally become more expensive to repair then purchase a new system.

So after needing a new computer and new printer, I quickly found that I had no idea what half of

the new connectors on the back of the tower were for. Luckily computer manufacteres have caught on to the fact that consumers have a much easier time with color codded connectors. My biggest surprise was the use of USB for my new keyboard, mouse and printer. The mouse and keyboard were no brainers but the problem of how to hook up my printer remained. The new printer didn t come with a cable and with that realization, it occurred to me that things haven t changed that much. You still have to pay extra for a cable, no matter the connection type, it s just marketing.

I am so glad that the use of parallel and serial ports have been phased out of the current computer hardware market. Gone are the days of dealing with gender adapters and making sure that you had a very specific cable for a specific application. Also gone are the days of ridiculously slow connection and data transfer rates that could drive a poor computer tech or user insane.

With the advent and the mass introduction to the market of the Universal Serial Bus, we have overcome all the old issues that came along with using a serial port. I just hope that while USB is great for now, that one day it is replaced with faster and more universal

standard for accessory connectivity. For most things the current USB 2.0 standard works well for but I can see where certain things can use a faster transfer rate.

A good example of this is the use of external hard drive storage for the editing of video. My personal computer does not have enough internal space to deal with the massive file sizes that come along with video. The problem with using external storage is the computer is constantly battling a slow transfer speed that can t keep up with the modern day processors and editing applications.

Hello Clueless96, welcome to the forum

Try this, take your time and work through it line for line, it is not as hard as you may first think;

General USB problems

After a USB device is installed and then removed Windows hides the driver this first part makes all hidden drivers visible.

Remove all USB devices

Click on start orb, Type Advanced System settings in the search box and click to go there.

Click on Advanced tab, Click on Enviroment Variables.

Under the window System variables click on New.

Type devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices without the as the variable name and type 1 as the value.

Click ok 3 times to close the windows

Click on start orb, Type Device Manager in the search box and click to go there.

Click on View, Click on Show hidden devices.

Now you can uninstall all old and unknown USB devices. I think it will be best if you uninstall all USB devices

The infcache.1 file is used to store information about USB drivers, the information in this file may have become corrupted or may cause windows to load the wrong driver or cause a driver not found message to be generated.

Deleting this file will force windows to generate a new infcache.1 file

Right click on the start orb and select Windows Explorer,

Select Computer in the address bar and search for infcache.1

Right click on the file infcache.1 if you have more instances of Windows installed only do this for infcache.1 C: Windows System32 Driver Store

Click on properties, Click on security tab, Click on Edit, Click on Add

Type Administrators In the window with the blinking cursor, Click OK

Place a tick in the box under allow to the right of Full Control, Click Apply, Yes and OK

Delete the infcache.1 file

Connect a USB device, but not the one you were having trouble with to make a new infcache. 1

New Start the PC and try your device again.

Windows Storage Driver Architecture

Windows operating system class and filter drivers for peripheral storage devices act as an interface between any intermediate or highest level drivers layered above the class or filter driver and a system-supplied port driver.

I/O requests from a user application or kernel component reach storage class drivers through I/O System Services and one or more intermediate or highest level drivers, such as a file system driver. Storage class drivers translate the standard IRPs they get into IRPs with system-defined SCSI request blocks SRBs containing SCSI command descriptor blocks CDBs before sending each IRP on to the next-lower driver. A storage port driver translates SRBs from class drivers into bus-specific commands which it sends to the storage HBA, through an I/O bus driver and possibly one or more filter drivers.

The following figure shows the layered architecture of Windows storage drivers.

Starting from the bottom of the figure, the following describes each type of storage driver:

A storage port driver defines an interface to all Windows storage class drivers, including the system-supplied disk, tape, CDROM, DVD, and changer class drivers. This port/class interface insulates class drivers from adapter-specific requirements of the host bus adapter to which their respective devices are connected. A storage port driver also synchronizes access to the bus for all drivers of devices on the corresponding HBA. The system supplies storage port drivers for SCSI, IDE, USB and IEEE 1394 adapters.

A storage port driver receives SRBs from the next higher driver a storage class driver or intervening filter driver and processes them as follows:

The storage port driver for a SCSI, or other bus, passes SRBs with CDBs on to an operating system-independent, HBA-specific Storport miniport driver, which is dynamically linked to its corresponding port driver and provides hardware-specific support for a particular HBA. For information about implementing a SCSI miniport driver, see Storport Miniport Drivers.

The storage port driver for a legacy IDE/ATAPI or IEEE 1394 bus translates the SRBs received from the storage class driver into the format required by the underlying adapter--for example, repackaging CDBs according to a bus-specific transport protocol, or translating them into a different format, thereby insulating upper level drivers from peculiarities of the underlying bus.

An upper or lower storage filter driver supports device-specific functionality not provided by a system-supplied storage class driver. A lower filter storage driver monitors SRBs and/or IRPs issued by a storage class driver and modifies them as needed before passing them to the next-lower driver a storage port driver or another storage filter driver.

For information about implementing a storage filter driver, see Storage Filter Drivers.

A storage class driver uses the SCSI port/class interface to control a device of its type on any bus for which the system provides a storage port driver. A class driver is specific to a particular class of device--for example, one class driver can run all CD-ROM devices on any supported bus; another can control all disk devices. The storage class driver handles I/O requests from user applications or drivers higher in the storage stack by building SRBs containing CDBs and issuing those SRBs to the next-lower driver a storage port driver or intervening filter driver, just as if the device were a SCSI device.

The implementation of a storage class driver is transparent to upper level drivers. A class driver for a tape or medium changer device is implemented as a device-specific miniclass driver that links to a system-supplied class driver. System-supplied class drivers for other storage devices, such as disk and CD-ROM/DVD, are implemented as single monolithic drivers.

For information about implementing a storage class driver, see Storage Class Drivers. For information about implementing a tape or changer miniclass driver, see Tape Drivers and Changer Drivers, respectively.

An upper filter storage driver intercepts IRPs from user applications and drivers higher in the storage stack and then possibly modifies them before passing them to the next-lower driver a storage class driver or another storage filter driver. Filter drivers typically monitor performance of the underlying device.

The type of bus to which a device is attached and the implementation of its storage port driver are transparent to upper level drivers. A storage port driver might be implemented according to the port/miniport driver architecture, like the SCSI port driver; as a monolithic driver that controls a single, standard piece of hardware, such as the IDE/ATAPI port driver; or as a filter driver that translates SRBs into the format required by a different driver stack, such as the IEEE 1394 port driver.

The system-supplied SCSI port driver can also act as an interface between a storage class driver and a SCSI miniport driver that controls a non-SCSI storage device of the same type. For example, rather than writing a driver for a new disk-array controller, a driver writer can save considerable design, development, and debugging effort by writing a pseudo-SCSI miniport driver that links to the system SCSI port driver and uses the interface it provides. Such a miniport driver is required to translate incoming SCSI commands into device-specific commands. On the other hand, the system-supplied port and class drivers handle much necessary work on a pseudo-SCSI miniport s behalf, including registry accesses during initialization, all resource and object allocations, synchronization, presizing of requested transfers to suit the capabilities of the miniport s device, and retrying requests.

For more detailed information about SRBs, see the Kernel-Mode Driver Architecture Reference. For device-type-specific information about CDBs, consult appropriate command sets in the INCITS SCSI-3 standards.
